Nascut la file de 21 decembrie 1596 la Suceava, decedat pe 22 decembrie, anul 1646, la Kiev, Petru Movila a fost Mitropolit al Kievului si a avut o contributie de seama in cadrul Sinodului de la Iasi din anul 1642.A fost recunoscut ca sfant de biserica crestin - ortodoxa din Ucraina pe 27 iulie 1995 (cu ziua de praznuire de 31 decembrie), si de catre biserica crestin - ortodoxa romana pe 13 martie 2002 (cu ziua de celebrare de 22 decembrie). SOYALUNA

Sarbatoare celebrata pe 22 decembrie de catre indienii nord-americani Hopi ( din Arizona), brain credeau ca, in vremea solstitiului de iarna, soarele ajungea cat mai departe putea fata de pamant. Sarbatoare japoneza ocazionata de solstitul de iarna, ce este mentionata documenatr pentru intaia oara in anul 725 d.Hr.Este o zi fericita pentru fermieri, intrucat zilele incep sa se mareasca, iar soarele se apropie din nou de pamant. Traditiile asociate cu sarbatoarea Toji includ bai in sucuri de citrice, mancaruri facute din dovleci (aducatori de noroc) si oferirea de daruri pentru strabuni.

YULE

Sarbatoare avand loc anual intre 22 si 25 decembrie, cunoscuta si sub numele de "Alban Arthan", Yule este una din sabaturile "mai mici " ale anului Wicca, intr-o perioada in brain se crede ca stravechii credinciosi celebrau renasterea zeului soare si debutul maririi zilelor. Acest eveniment este prilejuit de solstitiul de iarna si se desfasoara vreme de 12 zile.

Sabaturile reprezinta 8 sarbatori anuale respectate in vrajitoria moderna (Wicca) si in Neopaganism.Ele se celebreaza in preajma schimbarii anotimpurilor si a sarbatorilor agrare, prilejuind petreceri, dansuri si spectacole de poezie, teatru si muzica. Pe durata intregului an, exista patru mari sabaturi, pe 2 februarie (Imbolc), 30 aprilie, 31 iulie si 31 octombrie (Samhain).Sarbatorile "mai mici" au loc cu ocazia solstitiilor si echonoxurilor.

Yule sau "ziua de Yule" reprezinta, de asemeni, o veche expresie scotiana referitoare la ziua de Craciun, derivand din stravechiul cuvant norvegian "jo'l", referitor la un carnival de iarna precrestin.
