Imam al-Rida (as) was asked why an not compulsory fast is optional for the count up time, and he answered by saying that it served to match up mandatory fast.

Imam Jafer al-Sadiq (as) was asked why a Thursday of the experimental tenth days is to be fasted, a Thursday of the comprise, and a Wednesday in-between are the nominated days for such fast, and his counter was, "The goings-on of each servant of Allah are displayed beforehand Allah on each Thursday; as a result, He wished that it call for be done when such servant is observing a fast. One of the Prophets companions became vehement and meant, "O Give out of Allah! Salman is a Persian who requests to show off and establish his primacy over us, we men of Quraysh. You asked us, Which one of you fasts the whole time? and he meant he does so, when he eats greatest extent of the time. And you asked us, Which one of you says prayers the count up night? and he over meant he did so, when he sleeps greatest extent of the night. And you asked us, Which one of you recites the count up lettering of the Quran every day? and he for the third time meant that he did so, when greatest extent of the time he is silent."
The Give out of Allah (pbuh) rebuked that man and meant, "Carry on your calm, so-and-so, for how far you are from Luqman the Wise! Ask him, and he request explain to you," whereupon that companion turned to Salman and asked him thus: "O begin of Abdullah! You imprison claimed that you fast the whole time, havent you?" Salman answered him in the explicit, so the companion meant, "But I imprison seen you drinking greatest extent of the time!" Salman meant, "It is not what you say! I fast three days in every month, and Allah, the greatest extent Impressive, the greatest extent Hyped One, says, Whoever does a good produce a result request be salaried ten-fold (Surat al-Anam, verse 16). The man hence stood up and passed away as if someone had to the top his oral cavity with a throw stones at (as the Arabs put it). This event is recorded on pp. 93-94, Vol. 94, of Bihar al- Anwar.
In the fantastically quotation cited pompous, Imam al-Sadiq (as) quotes his forefathers citing the Give out of Allah (pbuh) saying, "I entered Paradise [dressed in my ascension, miraj] and found greatest extent of its recruits to be people who are not evil, who are incisive in spending their wealth, and who fast three days a month."
The Give out of Allah (pbuh) is quoted on p. 108, Vol. 94, of Bihar al-Anwar as saying that one who observes the fast of the month of Ramadan and follows it by fasting six days dressed in the month of Shawwal request be salaried as bit he had fasted the count up time.
One may deliberate whether give to sadaqa (benevolence) is finer pleasing than fasting. It is. On p. 102, Vol. 94, of Bihar al-Anwar, it is clear-cut that Imam Abu Abdullah al-Sadiq (as) was asked as soon as by Ibrahim al-Muthanna, one of his followers, "I imprison found it very urgent for me truly to fast three days a month; so, is give to any way I can make it up by, say, lithe one dirham by way of benevolence for each of these days?" The Imam (as) answered, "One dirhams benevolence is even larger than fasting one day." In the fantastically quotation, on p. 106, Salih ibn Uqbah meant to Imam Jafer al-Sadiq (as), "May my life be sacrificed for your sake! I imprison developed to be an old man, and I cogitate too fragile to supervisor the fast of these days." The Imam (as) responded by saying, Subsequently near sadaqa of one dirham (rites alike in import to 3.12 grams of silver) for each day." Feeding one impoverished individual is larger than the fast of a whole month."
